Program note:
Caverns can be defined as hollow openings in the ground; they can be tremendously vast or tightly confined. Within this premise, 'Through Each Cavern' explores sounds inspired by each of these dualities. As this work unfolds, musical gestures are gradually manipulated and re-contextualized, as the clarinet is revealed to reflect a psyche, while the percussion is representative of the space that slowly caves in around said psyche. The two instruments embark on their journey at great distances apart. As they go through each cavern, their open resonances begin to dissipate; spaces start to compress; textures become unified, sending them on a descent into total paranoia.Â
